Why are we carrying out a telephone appeal?
Our supporters who donate by Direct Debit provide a steady income, which enables us to continue to work towards access to medicines and moving drugs through clinical trials to the availability on the NHS.
We will be talking to supporters about how regular donations are supporting our vision of a future where people living with CF have the medicines that treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis and not the symptoms and asking them to sign up or increase their Direct Debit.

Will a telephone agency be used?
Yes, we work with a professional telephone fundraising agency called Ethicall, who call on our behalf. Using an agency allows us to contact thousands of our supporters in a short space of time at a low cost, which makes this a very cost-effective way of fundraising.
We take the utmost care to make sure all our agency fundraisers are trained to be as knowledgeable as possible and understand the work that we do.
We also go to great lengths to ensure that the fundraisers are professional ambassadors for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We are proud of the quality of their calls, and the enthusiasm they demonstrate for the cause.
Are the telephone agency fundraisers paid?
Yes, our professional fundraisers are paid a wage to fundraise on our behalf. They are always paid a set hourly rate, and are not working on a commission model. We do this to try and ensure that our fundraisers are motivated by our cause and not by the monetary incentive of working for commission.
We only use paid fundraisers where we are sure we will receive a good return on our investment. This means that the cost of paying the fundraisers is outweighed by the number of donations we receive.
How much money will you raise?
We are hoping to raise over £24,000 through our telephone fundraising in the next four years.
What if I don't want to be called or have other questions/comments?
If you don't wish to be called or you have other questions or comments about our telephone appeal you can email our Supporter Care team or call 020 3795 2177.
All of our fundraisers fully understand the importance of not being too pushy on the telephone. If a donor says they are too busy to talk, the fundraiser will immediately end the call or arrange a more convenient time to call back. They will also note if you do not want to be contacted in a telephone appeal again in the future.
What if I have been called and I wish to make a complaint?

Why do you collect bank details?
Giving by Direct Debit is the most effective way of donating regularly and requires supporters to provide us with the same bank details that can be found on a cheque (sort code and account number). These details can only be used to pay money into your account, or to set up a Direct Debit, which can only be done by authorised organisations.
If you set up a Direct Debit with us, you will receive written confirmation which will include a copy of the Direct Debit Guarantee and our contact details. You will then get a ten working day cooling off period to cancel your Direct Debit, or you can cancel your Direct Debit with us at a later date by contacting our Supporter Care Team.
All information is handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Who are we calling?
We call existing contacts of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, based on their previous supporter relationship with us.
You may be called if you:
- have an existing regular gift
- gave regularly to us in the past
- have given to an appeal or raffle in the past
- have carried out fundraising for us
- have campaigned for us
Our fundraisers are trained to end the call immediately if it becomes apparent that the person they are calling is going through a difficult time, or if they are not happy to continue with the call.
